If you like being kept up to date with the latest news, then you will also like RSS Guard. It is capable of retrieving information from RSS and ATOM feeds at a moment's notice. What's more, the application is quite easy to set up. You can follow countless feeds and have all the news and stories you want neatly organized on a user friendly interface. Even if you are a beginner, if you know what an RSS is, you won't have any problems using this application.

RSS Guard is absolutely free, but you can support future developments through donations. It works on all modern Windows platforms and it doesn't have any special requirements. Also, you don't need powerful hardware to run it.

The application supports multiple account types and it lets you have all of them set up simultaneously. All you have to do is select an account type on a small window and fill in the required information, which is usually a username, password and a URL. You can set up RSS feeds from your favorite services, but you can also connect to certain account types, like Tiny Tiny RSS or NextCloud News, to receive news through these services. Additionally, you can connect to a Gmail account, if you wish to send and receive emails.

The services you connect to and their feeds are neatly organized in a tree structure, on the right side of the main user interface. You can update individual feeds or everything at once with a single click. Selecting a feed will display its titles on the left half of the window, where you can also view their related stories, although an easier solution is to double click a title to see the story on its home page, on your default web browser.

Besides showing you the latest RSS feeds, the application comes with other simple, but useful features. For example, it can automatically delete read articles when you shut it down. Additionally, RSS Guard can show system tray notifications whenever something new is made available.

All the latest news and stories are right at your fingertips when using RSS Guard.

Pros

The software is capable of retrieving news from multiple feeds at once. It supports both RSS and ATOM standards. Its controls are well organized and easy to master.

Cons

There are no obvious drawbacks to mention.
